The overall aftersales needs of BEVs (battery electric vehicles) is repeatedly claimed to be much lower than those of ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles.  Surely then, as more customers gradually switch into BEVs, this will cause a significant fall in workshop revenues for franchised dealers, to the point of threatening their viability?  Recent ICDP research has explored the aftermarket impact of BEVs in detail and has concluded that the story is not so black and white as is often depicted, with considerable variation in probable outcome by component, by market segment, and over time as this briefing explains.
To examine the likely impact on dealer workshops of BEVs, we developed an update to our regular aftermarket projection model to handle the different technological make-up of plug-in vehicles (i.e. BEV + Plug-in Hybrids).
