January 2021 Replacing inventory with information webinar
Delays or gaps in information exchanged within supply chains have long been recognised as key drivers of overstocking, product mix imbalances, shortages and ageing stock, a phenomenon recognised more broadly in operations research for over 50 years, and an insight core to ICDP's simulation work in new vehicle supply since the 1990s. Information can demonstrably reduce inventory levels and costs in supply chains, whether that supply chain be for new cars, used cars or aftermarket parts. Shifts to omnichannel, digitised and home shopping has prompted all players in automotive to look again at improving the flow of information both vertically along value chains, and horizontally between peers in a network. Using leading edge examples, we shall explore how data is being used to advance the tracking, analysis, management and optimisation of inventory within auto distribution.
