April 2020 Helping the Recovery – Actions to Minimise the Damage Webcast (1)
In this special live webcast, members of the ICDP team (Steve Young, Andrew Tongue, Thomas Chieux and Luca Montagner) discussed the impact of Covid-19 shutdowns on the car sector in Europe, and as we hopefully move towards an easing of the restrictions, what actions can be taken to help a market recovery. This is not only a matter of self-interest for the industry – a prolonged slump would cause wider damage in national economies that already face unprecedented strain from the intervention measures. Recognising the impact of the shutdowns across the whole breadth of the economies in Europe, we do not believe that the answer will be in special aid or helicopter money from central banks. There is no certainty around the shape of a recovery, but it is possible to identify some self-help levers that are available for manufacturers, dealers, repairers and other industry players to create and capitalise on opportunities to the extent that there are willing customers.
